8 things to see in the famous Jumeirah Beach Area of Dubai

Jumeirah stretches about 12kms. Popular attractions like the Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah, Wild Wadi, Jumeirah Beach Park, Dubai zoo, Jumeirah mosque, etc are located along this stretch. Depending on your interests, one can spend an entire day in some of the attractions.

Dubai Taxis are widely available in this area. The RTA Bus number 8 is a excellent choice for budget conscious traveller, it starts from Al Ghubaiba bus station and run all the along the coast till Ibn Batuta Metro station. The frequency is 15-20 mins.

We will start our itinerary at Madinat Jumeirah. The closest metro station to Madinat Jumeirah is the Mall of the Emirates, from where a taxi ride will take about 15-20 mins and cost around AED 20-25 (approx 5kms). The other option is to board RTA Bus No 88 or X28 from the Nakheel Red Line Metro Station.

1. Madinat Jumeirah

Madinat Jumeirah is a luxurious 5 star resort located along 2 kms of pristine Jumeirah beach. It is the largest resort in Dubai consisting of private beaches, scenic waterways and landscaped gardens. Madinat Jumeirah is done in a traditional Arabic architecture. The Madinat Jumeirah has 2 boutique hotels Al Qasr (The Palace) and Mina A Salam (Harbour of Peace). And there are 29 standalone two storey Arabic Summer courtyard houses called Dar Al Maysaf. The Malkiya villas have private swimming pools. The resort has 5kms indoor water ways linking different areas of the resort by water boats called Abras.
Inside the resort, there are over 40 world class restaurants and bars, the state of the art Talise Spa and Fitness centre, golf courses, tennis courts, and theatres. The traditional Souk Madinat Jumeirah has retail shops selling clothes, jewellery, antiques, art, oils and spices, and a series of world-class restaurants and bars.

2. Burj Al Arab

Burj Al Arab is the world's most luxurious award winning hotel in Dubai. It is a short walk from Madinat Jumeirah. The hotel offers stunning views of the Palm Jumeirah, the Jumeirah Beach and the Dubai Skyline. It has a very stunning architecture from the outside and inside. The hotel has 202 duplex suites and personalised butler service. Facilities include eight world class bars and restaurants, swimming pools, private beach and Assawan Spa and healthclub. The hotel offers a VIP helicopter transfer service to its guest and costs more than AED 10000 one way!

Entry is restricted to public but there is a Welcome centre just outside the hotel where you can book a table at one of the restaurants inside the hotel. The Skyview bar is located on the 27th floor and serves light snacks, drinks and after tea. Minimum spend is AED 260 and minimum age is 21. The Skyview bar offers world's most expensive cocktails "Diamonds are forever" for AED 4950 inclusive of the Swarovski Crystal glass in which the cocktail is served!
The other option is the San Eddar restaurant on the first floor. The San Eddar restaurant serves Burj Al Arab breakfast for AED 265 per person, afternoon tea for AED 425 per person inclusive of the glass, High Tea for AED 300 per person and beverage packages for AED 215 available between 20:00 and 23:00.

The hotel follows strict dress code, men are required to wear a collared shirt, full-length trousers or elegant jeans and closed shoes and women are required to wear a suit or dress, long or short skirt or dressy slack and top.

3. Wild Wadi Water Park

The Wild Wadi Water Park is just outside the Burj Al Arab. It is the Dubai's first water park and has over 30 rides and attractions themed around the Arabian folklore character Juha. The all day pass costs about AED 235 for Adults and AED 175 for children under 1.1m in height.
The water park conducts its annual maintenance program every year in the months on Jan-Feb. In 2014, the park will be closed from 12 Jan until 13 Feb. Please visit their website for exact information.

4. Jumeirah Beach Park

Jumeirah Beach Park is around 10 kms from Wild Wadi park along the Jumeirah beach. A taxi ride will costs AED 25-30, alternatively you can board the RTA Bus No 8 / 88 / F55A or X28 to the Jumeirah Beach park. The landscaped park is open from 8am to 10pm (Saturday's ladies only). Entry fee is AED 5 per person or AED 25 per car.

5. Mercato Shopping Mall

Mercato Shopping Mall is one of the oldest malls in Dubai. It is located in the heart of Jumeirah around the Public beach area. It is around 3 kms fom Jumeirah Beach park. It was opened in 2002, just at the start of the Dubai's economic boom. The mall has a unique architecture style seen in the 16-17th century Europe. It has over 100 shops with a wide variety of international brands. VOX Cinemas is located in the Mercato mall.

6. Dubai Zoo

Dubai zoo is a short walk from the Mercato Shopping mall. The zoo has over 200 animal species and is open from 10am to 6pm. There is a entry fee of AED 2. 7. Jumeirah Mosque

Jumeirah Mosque
Jumeirah mosque is the largest and most attractive mosque in Dubai. It is the only mosque in Dubai which is open to non-muslims. The mosque features on AED 500 currency note. The mosque is open all days except Fridays. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding conducts tours of the Grand Jumeirah Mosque every morning at 10am. Modest dress is preferred, however traditional attire can be borrowed from the Mosque.

8. Jumeirah Open Beach


Jumeirah open beach is just few blocks away from the Jumeirah mosque. This part of Jumeirah beach stretches for about 1.5 kms. The open beach has showers and toilets and few refreshments stalls.
